Landgrab City Urban Farm

Architect: Joseph Grima

Location: Hong Kong

Completed: 2010

From the beginning, this temporary urban farm, installed in the middle of the Shenzhen/Hong Kong Biennale of Architecture/Urbanism congress is a unique example of landscape. It represents an urban farm, but also represents one of the most important values of landscape architecture, which is challenging the reality of our cities and city life. The conception of this project creates a precedent in the search for landscape architects, to motivate people to think about solutions for their future as it is becoming bleaker day by day.

A key factor of this installation is the concept of scale. A shown by the map including in the installation the project is a scaled representation of how much land it is necessary to provide enough food to all inhabitants that live in the area represented in the map. This representation is also a future image of the amount of land that would be necessary to feed the population of the same area in 2027.
