Wikado
Architect: Superuse Studios
Location: Rotterdam
Completed: 2012

Jos de Krieger, partner at Superuse Studios runs design workshops on the principles and processes or ‘superuse’ designing from reusable ‘waste’ materials in architecture. The aim behind is to re-imagine playgrounds and urban furniture created from unwanted materials and waste from cities. For this project, the studio used windmill blades to create ‘wikado’ creating a robust outdoor furniture around an existing park. The project has created an alternative play scene space for the kids of Rotterdam.

the existing playground had been in bad shape, and the idea was to give the center's outdoor play area a makeover using recycled materials. With old windmills and modern wind turbines still very much a part of the Dutch landscape, this colourful playground takes a historical piece of the Dutch identity and deftly integrates it into the city.
