The Vertical Forest is an architectural concept which replaces traditional materials on urban surfaces using the changing polychromy of leaves for its walls. These 2 towers of residential buildings are planted with a wide range of trees and plants that are distributed according to the sun exposure. This vegetal system is aiming to construct a microclimate that filter dust particles in the urban environment, protects people from harmful sun rays and from acoustic pollution, produces humidity, absorbs CO2 and dust particles and produces oxygen. The vertical forest acts as an anti-sprawl measure to control and reduce urban expansion.
Taking the same concept, a ‘forest city’ is now under construction in Liuzhou, China, that will host 30,000 people, aiming to absorb 10,000 tons of CO2 and 57 tons of pollutants annually.
